After (amazingly!) 40 years of organising the Well Parc summer barbecues for the churches in Trevone and Padstow, Ron and Pat Olivey are hanging up their aprons and barbecue tongs and handing over to a new team. Ron and Pat are a hard act to follow, and once again, many thanks.

This summer Sue Hollingsworth, Jane Myles and Tim Bishop are taking up the challenge and will be delighted to be in touch with potential stall holders, donors of prizes and gifts, and anyone who would be prepared to help on the day.

It’s a long way off but the key to the success (and lack of stress) of these events is in preparation. The only thing we have no control over is the weather, but we have got a great date – August 4th - and this is one of the key barbecues of the summer season guaranteed to bring in plenty of holiday makers.

We will need all the help we can get and this is an ideal opportunity to bring in some new blood and some new ideas for stalls, fund raising and games – and maybe music to accompany the event. Already ideas are coming thick and fast… for example there may be a small novelty dog show (prizes for cuddliest, noisiest, oldest, youngest, etc) so put your thinking caps on.

Please use this opportunity to introduce new pals to this great summer fun evening and help spread the word.

Water quality…

The following article in the Times Online sums up the state of the areas waters… TaWRA has been monitoring Tevone’s water quality since its inception, getting results of the biweekly tests that the Environment Agency take throughout the summers. Recently TaWRA met with the environment agency to raise its concerns and the reaction was very positive with promises of them working with us to try to achieve better water quality for our residents and visitors. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article7134009.ece

At this stage it is impossible to give any advice and there is no clear mechanism for protection of the public unless the problem is so visible that the lifeguards choose to close the beach.

From my perspective, I wont be letting my daughter bath in the stream or “lagoon” at the top of the beach, but I'll take my chances and still be surfing when the waves are up.

Craft Fayres in the Village Hall

Charity Cycle RIde

John Bullingham is going to repeat his amazing charity bike ride of last year - Trevone to Birmingham and back again - on Thursday 24th June, returning, triumphantly after 500 miles in the saddle, on June 27th. Andy NIcholls Ceramics Exhibition

From 14th to 17th May Trevone sculptor and ceramics man, Andy Nicholls is having an exhibition with Barry Johnson at Westcliff Pottery, 22 Tower Park, Fowey as part of the Daphne Du Maurier Festival. Do try and pop over to view Andy's fab garden sculptures in a brilliant location overlooking the estuary.

No dogs on the beach until October

Community Bus

Thanks to the efforts of PATCAG (the Padstow and Trevone Action Group) we are about to have a community bus. This will be fully converted to include handrails and a wheelchair lift so that it can be used by everyone in the community. They hope to run a weekly service for all those communities within the area who are not on any bus route. There is already a list of volunteers who want to help and local groups who wish to use it. Closure of Trevone Village Store

Ian and Julie Reynolds have announced with sadness and with great reluctance that the Village Store will be closing on April 5th. Ian has battled on bravely since the closure of the post office facility but it has become financially unviable to continue trading.
Many elderly residents treat their daily walk to the shop not as a shopping trip but as an essential social interlude in their day. It has always been more than just a place to pick up a paper and buy food, and Ian feels he is letting people down by closing. However, the numbers are just not adding up. Ian is hoping to open the store during high season for essential goods required for holiday makers which means it will be closed for three months from April 5th until July. Heidi and Grahame are now in negotiation with W. H. Smith to take on the papers and also hope to negotiate some extra collection points for this, eg the Well Parc, so that those living at Windmill don'f have the full three quarters of a mile to walk to collect their daily paper. There are lots of possibilities for the future, including development and renovation of the Village Hall which we hope at some point will have a daily drop-in coffee facility. Heidi has also promised that whatever happens the village will always have a village shop. In addition, there is the new community bus. ((see later post)

TaWRA Open Forum

Please try and come to the TaWRA Open Forum at 7.00 pm in the Village Hall on Thursday March 25th. This is a chance to share and air any concerns that you might have about life in the village or the local environment and also to have a bit of social time with the other residents. It is also a chance to catch up with anything that TaWRA may be involved in. At present some of the more important issues are the water quality on Rocky Beach, the closure of the Village Store, the local footpaths, and a planned traditional country fayre at the end of May. Tea and coffee will be served.
It is hoped that the March newsletter will be available before the meeting both for those of you who have it delivered to your home and also to those of you who receive it online.

Farewell to two Trevone legends

Kaye Guy

With great sadness we wish to let everyone know that Kaye Guy, Stan Burgess's mother-in-law, died just after Christmas. As many of you remember, Kaye celebrated her 99th birthday at a big party in the Village Hall only a few months ago when she was bright, perky and enjoying life to the full. However, she suffered several strokes and heart attacks over Christmas and died shortly afterwards. Kaye's funeral will be on Thursday 14th January at 10.30 at Glyn Valley, Bodmin. Family flowers only please. Donations to Cancer Research UK or the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth.

Michael Higman

Michael died yesterday (2nd Jan), and, like Kaye, he was a very familiar figure in Trevone. He bravely coped with his illness over the past months and our sympathies go to Richard and the family. No details as yet about a funeral, but we hope to post information on this website when we have it.

Site visit: land at Trevone Farm

At 10.00 am on Tuesday 5th January the Councillors from Cornwall Council Planning Committee are doing a site visit prior to their planning meeting on January 14th in Camelford to assess the site of the proposed affordable housing development. It will be possible for members of the public to speak at this site meeting. it will be addressed by the Chairman and the Planning Officer as well as those interested in making their opinions known. You can access the field from the stile and narrow footpath alongside Dawn on Trevone Road or via the gate at the top just by the entrance to Southway.

Village Carol Singing

Come along and sing carols around the village on Sunday 20th December. Meet at the Well Parc at 5.45 where we hope to split into two groups - one to sing in the north and one in the south. This way we should spend more time singing and less time walking as we did last year. We hope to visit anyone who wants to be serenaded on their own doorsteps If you want to be visited, do phone Lee at the Well Parc (520-318) who will be liaising and working out routes for the singers. It's just for fun! No collection - just enjoy it whether you are a singer or a listener. At 8.00 we will all be meeting once again at the Well Parc for 'a bit of a do' with punch and mince pies. Last year 30 people turned up to sing and it was great fun. Make this the beginning of your Christmas celebrations!

St Saviour's Christmas Carols

Its been brought to our attention the following….

Mail hoaxer postal scam. Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail as a hoax. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam: A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize. If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call. If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at www.icstis.org.uk

Well Parc Children in Need 2009

Well Parc Bonfire postponed

Please note that the big November 5th bonfire and fireworks event at the Well Parc was postponed due to the extremely dangerous high gusts of wind forecast for the night. The winds would have blown the fireworks directly into the public viewing area so for safety reasons. Sadly the 14th November, the new date, proved to be even more tempestuous. It has been postponed and will now happen on December 28th.

Halloween at the Well Parc

While the children were busy trick or treating, the adults were hard at work painting their faces and struggling into all manner of spooky fancy dress to celebrate Ray Mills' birthday. Trick or treating in Trevone

Trevone certainly pushed the boat out for Halloween 2009. Three groups of children (split according to age) toured the village in wonderful costumes trick or treating and there was an abundance of glowing pumpkins to welcome them. Many householders had dressed up in suitably scary costumes to welcome them and in some cases, almost frightened them off before they received any sweets or chocolate!

Traffic calming on Trevone Road

Those observant ones among you will have noticed the new 'SLOW' signs in the village. Richard Griffiths, representing TaWRA and Tony Doherty representing PATCAG met with Peter Darrock from the Highways Services Dept of Cornwall Council to discuss the installation of additional road signage in an effort to curb the long-running problem of speeding and consequent hazards to pedestrians on Trevone Road, particularly on the section from Windmill down to the Village Hall. The traffic trio duly inspected various locations on this section of road and marked agreed locations for a variety of signs. Painting of the two ‘SLOW’ signs has now been done, with locations just before Southway looking downhill, and just after the Village Hall looking uphill. There will also be a number of additional roadside signs on posts on this section of road including two appropriate hazard signs at each end, and some small 30 mph-limit repeater discs. Mr Darrock was sympathetic to the idea that even 30 mph might be too high on Trevone Road given its narrowness and lack of pavement.
NB Regarding speeds on Trevone Road, please take things slowly and set a good example to those people - especially commercial vehicles - who feel the need to race in or out of the village at top speed and who treat the speed limit as something of a joke.

Country pleasures in Trevone

Those of you who might be puzzled by the strange brown rectangles on the fields sweeping up across the other side of the valley from Trevone Road might be intrigued to learn that on October 24th Trevone - Porthmissen to be precise - was the site for the Wadebridge and District 36th Annual Ploughing Contest. John Bullingham managed to get some great shots of the event and once again they remind us how privileged we are to live here surrounded by idyllic countryside. Enjoy!

Trevone Trick or Treating

Saturday is Halloween and due to the popularity of the Village Halloween Fun, the numbers last year grew considerably. This year the children are being split into three groups so that they can cover different areas of the village. This means that each household wishing to participate will be visited by only about 20 children. Halloween is not for everyone, so if you would like to be called on by the children, please let Ros Roberts know (520-469). Many people are displaying the pumpkin poster here in their window to let the children know it is OK to knock the door.

Happy Birthday Kay!

Huge congratulations to Kay Guy, Stan Burgess's mother-in-law, on the fabulous achievement of reaching 99! We had a great party in the village hall thanks to Pat Hall and her team of helpers. Kay was on excellent form as ever, and, apparently, loves surprises, so this surprise tea party was a great way to hold the dress rehearsal for next year! Kay is an inspiration to us all and could probably beat quite a few of us in a daily brisk walk to the village store.

Farewell to the lifeguards

It's the end of the lifeguard season on Trevone until next spring although Harlyn will still be operational for a few more weeks. At 6.00pm on Sunday evening Sam, supervisor Craig and senior lifeguard Oli closed the door of the hut for the last time and folded up the red and yellow flags. Apart from a multitude of minor incidents and weaver fish stings, this summer there were six main incidents on Trevone where adults or children were unable to bring themselves back to shore and had to be rescued. Well done RNLI!
Most people know that there is quite a dangerous rip current at Trevone which is why we need lifeguards. If you want to know more about rip currents have a look at this fascinating little Australian film clip. It will make you watch the waves at Trevone more closely!

Latest news from Patricia: Last photo before lift off! The 2 young flew on 6th Sept. Sadly one was found dead yesterday outside the shop, probably flew into the window and died. However it's been a very good season with 2 broods and 5 young. Hopefully this will be repeated next year.

John Hird kindly sent this picture of a special little bridge known to everyone who has walked through the fields from Trevone to Padstow (a bit like Jane Austin's Elizabeth Bennett walking to Meryton in 'Pride and Prejudice'). The bridge has been tidied up and if you have never done the walk, it's highly recommended. Just follow the paths and get the next stile in sight each time so you know which direction you are heading in.

Swallows at the Village Store

Patricia Davies, our resident ornithology expert reported that the 1st brood of swallows at the Trevone Village Store successfully fledged 4 at the end of June and went on to have a second brood of 2 which are nearly on the wing and these are the photos. It is is possible they might have a 3rd brood! Next time you go to the shop, stop outside the door and look up to the left into the corner above Ian and Julie's front door and you will see them for yourself.

Dobbin Lane's Joseph Grant appears in Wembley spectacular

Joseph Fenwick Grant (10) of Dobbin Lane, Trevone, had his dreams answered when he was picked to be a McDonald's Player Escort at Football's early-season showpiece the Community Shield match at Wembley between Chelsea and Manchester United recently.
Joseph (pictured centre in front of Nicolas Anelka) walked out onto the Wembley turf with his Chelsea idols after he and his Dad Ossie had been guests of McDonald's the night before at the Hilton Wembley Plaza Hotel. There was a memorable dinner and a question-and-answer session with England football legend Sir Geoff Hurst.
On the day, Joseph (himself a promising midfielder according to Ossie) got to shake hands with his hero Didier Drogba and walked out with Nicolas Anelka (note the contrast in hair styles) and also pictured is John Mikel Obi. Joseph and his Dad then watched the game from exclusive seats close to the players' tunnel. "The whole thing was great" said Joe, and for Ossie too. "It was a very emotional occasion - I was a very proud Dad when he walked out on the pitch".Joseph's Mum Lisa took a more practical approach - her family are mostly Arsenal sympathizers - "What I was really concerned about was that Ossie would remember to get Joseph to brush his hair!"
Looking at the photograph perhaps Anelka was thinking the same - or was he just jealous?.

Trevone's Croquet King

Congratulations to Richard Griffiths on winning the Budleigh Salterton Handicap Singles Championship of the South West of England. Richard demolished everyone in an international field of 48 excellent croquet players and finally defeated his New Zealand opponent to win the Oliver Memorial Bowl. It was made in 1879 and has a 1-gallon capacity, probably originally intended as punch bowl.
For those of you who are nowhere near this standard or who are just curious to learn the game, come along on a Friday at 11.0am to Berryfields in Porthcothan where about 12 Trevone locals usually play until about 3.00pm depending on the weather. We have also started to play at Pencarrow which is a magnificent setting. Once a group of Pencarrow players gets into its stride we may even be able to have a small tournament. It's a leisurely sociable game, contrary to all rumours about its viciousness, but that may be because we play a simpler version of Association Croquet known as 'golf croquet'. You will pick it up really quickly and it's good fun. If interested, ring Richard Griffiths on 01841-520-249.

Pilates taster sessions

TV switchover

The Community Police have asked us to remind everyone that the digital switchover will take place on August 12th. There is a Switchover Help Scheme for the most vulnerable people in the community and is available to anyone who is over 75, disabled, or in a care home. Many of these people will not actually know what to do, so if you know of anyone who needs help, get them to call (free) on 0800 40 85 900 or help them yourself by reading www.helpscheme.co.uk In particular the Community Officers want to make sure that people such as the recently bereaved, victims of crime or people who are living alone are given maximum assistance.
In addition, if you are very technically adroit and have technophobe pals who are experiencing difficulties re-tuning their televisions, please be generous with your expertise.

Natalie's Challenge

Pirate FM are involved in a ‘Cash Mountain Challenge’ to raise much-needed funds for a special children's hospice in Cornwall. Trevone’s Natalie Olivey is one of three finalists who have been challenged to raise as much money as they can by the 1st Aug 09. The winner receives a prize of a family holiday to the Rocky Mountains, but the main winner will be the Precious Lives Appeal which helps terminally ill children and their families. Natalie is also looking for local products and produce to sell at the Pirate FM garden party on Sat 25th July at the Wadebridge show ground, where she has a stall. Knitted items, home-made cards, jams, preserves or home-grown vegetables and plants to sell on the stall will be most gratefully received. As part of Natalie’s fund-raising events, there is also a Bush Tucker Trial on the evening of 18th July at Newquay Zoo with James Martin, Pirate FM DJ and Jo Olivey plus a line-dancing evening and sausage sizzle at the Well Parc on the evening of the 25th July.

Teddy Bears Jump for St Petroc's Church

Baby Ted (right) is extremely nervous as he is 62 years old, a bit creaky in the joints and doesn't see well out of one eye but is hoping to take part in the Teddy Bears' Picnic and Parachute Jump. Teddy bears will be jumping off St Petroc's Church tower in Padstow at 3.00pm on Sunday 19th July. Entry is £1 per teddy per jump. Bring your teddy along with his parachute and register from 2.30 outside the lower church door. Prizes for the best decorated parachute and the winning teddy parachutist. All proceeds towards St Petroc's.

W.I. Craft Exhibition

A craft exhibition is being held at the WI hall at the top of Trevone Road from 24th-26th July. It will be open from 10.30-4.30 Friday and Saturday and 11.00-3.00 on Sunday.

It will feature work by WI members and local artists, and a wide variety of craft will be shown including embroidery, patchwork, photography, ceramics, sculpture, paintings and handmade cards.

Entry is £1.00 and will include refreshments.

The hero returns!

On Saturday evening Trevone was festooned with balloons and streamers and a gang of villagers in party mood waited outside the village hall for the triumphal return of their hero. Excitement mounted as we were tipped off by Dave Cowling who had overtaken them in his cab saying, "I just passed them on this side of Little Petherick!"

An excited young Charlie Reynolds screamed, "They're coming! They're coming!" from his vantage point further up the road, and those armed with champagne vigorously shook their bottles in anticipation of the Formula One-style welcome while everyone else began whooping, cheering, clapping and shouting John's name.

Marathon charity cyclist John Bullingham and his pals Jenna, Jeff and Nick swept through the finishing tape having completed the 500-mile cycle trip from Trevone to Birmingham and back in 4 days (John's friend Nick joined them in Okehampton).

It had begun three days earlier with a dawn 'coffee and croissant party' send-off at Andy and Alison Nicholls' house. The cyclists had to battle with head winds almost all the way to Birmingham and on the return journey they suffered three punctures and terrifying flash flooding in Gloucester which put the whole venture into question. Other friends, Melvin, Ashley and Mike joined the gang from Birmingham to Tewkesbury and John is immensely grateful to Richard and Dave who drove the support vehicle.

Talking of the high and low points, John said, " The psychological strain was worse than the mental one. There was none of the usual joy in speeding down steep hills on the way there because we knew we would have to struggle back up them again two days later, but physically I feel great."

John raised at least £1,500 and there is still money coming in for which he sends a massive thank you to everyone who has contributed.

The TaWRA Open Forum on June 17th was a chance for residents to meet representatives of various working sections of the community - the RNLI, the Beach Ranger Service, the Community Police, representatives of the Church, and local councillors. This was an opportunity to put faces to organizations and to forge more direct lines of communication. It was also a chance to brainstorm ideas for improving village life and to demonstrate that the village has a pulse and is developing new ways to disseminate information - not only to permanent residents, but also to second-home owners.
There are now two transport surveys (under 60s and over 60s) which are a PATCAG (Padstow and Trevone Community Action Group) initiative available in the village and we hope that there may be a shuttle service between Padstow and the outlying villages as a result. Residents were able to make suggestions to TaWRA committee members about future developments and concerns and we will be processing any other ideas left in the suggestions box as soon as possible.Bobby Renaud from the RNLI updated the village on lifeguard cover, and Steve Latham (Beach Ranger) gave a short presentation about litter and beach safety. Fortunately Trevone beach is, for the most part, frequented by responsible people who take all their litter home with them.A date for the diary:The PATCAG AGM is at Padstow School at 7.30 on Wednesday 24th June. Early birds catch the worms - and the gulls

A group of Trevone 'early birds' marched up Porthmissen hill and out onto the cliffs this morning with our binoculars to learn more about fulmars, herring gulls, kittiwakes, shags, razor bills, corn buntings. We also spotted peregrine falcons, sky larks and kestrels - all of which we were able to see in brilliant close-up through Tricia's tripod-mounted telescope. We 'ooh'ed and 'aah'ed at the fledgling herring gulls and learned how the meadow pipit falls "as if in a parachute" from the sky. We were told how fulmars spit from nostrils which are placed half way up their beaks ("Euuggh") and how the oyster catchers send out the alarm to the other birds. All this in a couple of hours of good company, turquoise sea and sparkly sky. A great success.

In addition we foraged in the hedgerows to see if we could name all the various flowers and identify anything that was edible. We managed to get a nibble of samphire, sea spinach, wild parsley and, the most exciting of all, sea radish which felt a bit like eating neat wasabi sauce. The swots in the group who had remembered to bring their Mitchell Beazley Wild Flower companion book were completely outdone by Ruth Binney who was visiting for a few days and joined the walk. She pointed out shyly that she had edited the book and there, sure enough, was her name on the credits.

VILLAGE OPEN FORUM - Wednesday 17th June

By popular request, TaWRA is holding an Open Forum in the Village Hall from 7.00 pm onwards on Wednesday 17th June. This is a chance to find out more, chat to members of the Committee, put forward suggestions (in person or into an anonymous suggestion box) and help us to help the village as much as we can. Coffee will be served and there will be presentations of some of the issues we have addressed so far. Quite an eventful week with the Big Breakfast on Sunday and the Bird watching Walk on Tuesday, apart from all the regular events, but try to pop in even if it's only for a short while. We would love to see you there.

Simple Pleasures - getting the village talking

In addition to news of village events and other information, the Newsletter is now running a series of interviews with residents on the theme of 'Simple Pleasures' - what makes life special in Trevone.

This includes 60 different topics. The Cornish Guardian has taken this up and is going to report on TaWRA’s initiative shortly as part of the BBC's 'Love Where You Live' campaign. The aim of this is to encourage the village to be more socially inclusive.

As a spin-off from the ‘simple pleasures’ interviews, residents are now offering to pool their knowledge and passions with one another, e.g. bird watching walks, gardening skills, cookery, etc. This pooling of skills is vital to keep the village alive and kicking, even more so now that the Post Office has gone as it was a central meeting place, especially for the elderly. The Newsletter is also a forum for people wanting to do things for the village such as tidying the hedgerows, planting bulbs etc.

Trevone's hero on two wheels

On 24^th June, John Bullingham is beginning his epic 500-mile cycle ride from Trevone to Birmingham and back again. He is hoping to complete the journey in four days and is aiming to raise a lot of money for Cancer Research by doing this. Friends and family are joining him for the occasional mile. Come to the Madrips Cafe car park at 9.30 am on Tuesday 16th June where Tricia Davies is taking a group of us along the cliffs to do some bird watching and hedgerow watching. Tricia is an enthusiastic amateur and would love to share her own knowledge of bird life with those of us who know nothing. She would also like to learn something new from those of you who know more. If nothing else, we will all get to know one another better and hopefully learn something about the many wonderful birds that we have the privilege of seeing all around our village. Bring binoculars of course - and a snack if you think you may get hungry. It's an early start as apparently the birds go to sleep or to sea in the afternoon!

Trevone's Got (Artistic) Talent

A stunning exhibition of flowers, arts and crafts filled St Saviour's church this week to mark the 50th anniversary of the church's dedication. The theme of the exhibition was 'Seaside' and the enormous variety of paintings, photographs, sculptures, embroidery, patchwork and models on view proved that Trevone is a hotbed of creativity.

The road to Porthmisson

The road across the top of the beach to Porthmisson has now become virtually impassable for many cars, so please think before you use it and we do recommend parking in the upper car park rather than down on the beach if possible.

So what is being done? Well both TaWRA and The PTCAG have been in contact with Highways who are responsible for fixing it and the understanding is that it is on the list... so watch this space... it should be fixed before Easter with luck! So thanks to those involved for pushing on this.

Whilst we are on the subject of that piece of road, do be careful using it on Spring high tides with big surf as the sea has come up over the sea wall three times in the last twelve months...

Replacement bench

The bench by the lifeguard hut is going to be replaced by Padstow Town Council with kind permission of the Prideaux-Brunes.

Relocation of the bus stop

Following representations by TaWRA to Padstow Town Council at the suggestion of a local resident, the Council has agreed with the Police and the County Council that (subject to the agreement of the utility companies) the Windmill bus shelter will be moved. The Newquay to Padstow (556 service) bus shelter will be round the corner from its present site in Windmill so that those waiting for the bus are clearly visible to the driver. Also, on the other side of the road, we have requested consideration be given to a better and safer pulling-in and stopping place. Christmas shopping taxi-bus

Dave Cowling has kindly offered to do some shopping trips to Truro or Plymouth in his taxi. For details, ring: 520-370 or his mobile: 07970-625-878 if you would like to share a taxi with others. It’s fun to do it in company rather than trudging round alone. Six people minimum. He will also do similar trips to Padstow.

This year it will be held on 13^th December. Look out for posters with details on how to book your place throughout the village.

Christmas Carols

Mon 22^nd: Carols in the village (7.00 pm)

A group (including children of all ages) will sing carols around the village. If you are elderly or housebound or would just like to be personally serenaded, contact Lee Mills on 520-318 and the group will come to your home. If you want to join the singers, meet at the Well Parc at 6.30. There is also a Christmas Party from 8.30pm. Free mulled wine for the carol singers and the Grotto is open (for a fee) for the children (proceeds to Children in Need).

The TaWRA logo was chosen at the gathering in the village hall following the post office farewell. We can confirm that the communities preference was overwhelming in favour of Logo 2 (also known as the "fish"). The voting was 36 to 12 in favour of Logo 2. Thanks to all those that took the effort to vote and we hope that this logo will help us communicate Trevone and its uniqueness more efficiently. The winning design includes the elements of Madrips, the Roundhole, the sea, the beach and the community.

Post Office farewell

A few weeks ago the village said farewell to the post office. The occasion was marked by an event TaWRA committee members organised at the Village Hall, and with the press in attendance the villagers even made the front of the North Cornwall Guardian. Thanks go to Stan Burgess and Ron Olivey for marking the event with some fine words.

We have several photographs from the event with pics being taken by John Bullingham, Tim Stafford, and Peter Carter from the Guardian. We hope to get some of the ones used in the paper for people to buy as keepsakes in the near future.

A big thanks to Ian, Julie and family for their support over the years. We hope the shop remains viable so that the village doesn't lose its epicentre.

Proposed Affordable Housing Development in Trevone

We have put First Step Home's plan on line for those who aren't familiar with their proposals. A fact sheet and survey was issued by TaWRA to establish residents' and property owners' opinions.

The proposed development is in the bottom 1/4 of the field opposite Parkenhead Road for 15 two story terraced houses.

The surveys are being independently assessed and we hope to convey the results in early December.
